Simple Surf Tips for Getting Barreled with your Board
Surf Tips for Improvement
When a new year begins, we all set new goals on how to improve our surfing. And many of you might have said, "this year I'm going to get barreled."
We've already given you more tips, if you want to check them out!
So, for all of you, we're going to give you a guide on how to achieve it!
- Suitable conditions: look for 1m (shoulder-high) waves with clean conditions, preferably with a little offshore wind.
- Board: Choose a board you feel confident with to catch the wave easily and with time, and with which you are comfortable to make the most of the wave.
- Takeoff: Paddle with confidence and remember to orient yourself slightly in the direction you want to go.
- Find the pocket: This is the most important step; the pocket of the wave is that point where the wave is between the foam and the wall: the point of maximum energy of the wave, and where the barrel will form.
- Slow down: When you're in the pocket and feel the wave might barrel, reduce your speed by shifting A LITTLE of your weight to your back foot. This way, you'll go slightly slower than the wave, and the lip of the wave will catch you.
- Prepare: Position your body bent and relaxed to pass through the barrel and ready to prepare your exit.
- Exit: When you start to feel the barrel covering your head and you see that vision you always dreamed of, accelerate: put your weight slightly forward to gain speed and exit the barrel with a smile!
Getting barreled is surely the most incredible feeling in surfing. But like all great rewards, it requires work. Your job here is to feel veeery comfortable in the pocket of the wave.
Master these fundamentals and your moment will come!!

Someone Has to Go Get the Barrels
One of our favorite surfers, John John Florence, throwing himself into barrels that look more like a washing machine centrifuging than a wave. 3 minutes of attempts, wipeouts, and some truly crazy barrels.
A clear example that attitude and trying are the most important things in surfing!
