Men's Surf Wetsuits: surfing in the Cantabrian Sea, the Mediterranean, and beyond

Surfing in Spain means adapting to very different waters depending on where you live and the time of year you're in the water. In winter in the north, the Cantabrian Sea drops below 12°C and you need a 5/4mm that truly insulates. In summer in the Mediterranean, a 3/2mm is sufficient. Why a men's cut matters in a surf wetsuit

A poorly cut wetsuit for the male anatomy is not only uncomfortable, it lets in more water, restricts paddling, and tires you out faster. Deeply men's models have specific cut patterns: greater shoulder width for freedom of movement during paddling, a longer torso to prevent the wetsuit from riding up when bending on the board, and thicker panels on the chest and back where body heat is lost the most. The result is a suit that keeps you warm where it needs to and doesn't restrict you where you need to move.

Which thickness to choose depending on where you surf

  • 5/4mm or 5/3mm→ Cantabrian Sea and Galician winter. Water below 14°C from November to March. With this thickness, you may also need booties and gloves in the coldest months
  • 4/3mm→ Galicia and Cantabrian Sea in spring and autumn, Portuguese Atlantic in winter. Water between 14-17°C. The most versatile if you surf in the north
  • 3/2mm→ Summer in the north, spring-autumn in the Mediterranean. Water between 17-20°C
  • 2mm or shorty→ Mediterranean summer and Canary Islands. Water above 20°C

Mineralprene Technology: what sets Deeply apart

Chest zip vs back zip for men

  • Back zip→ zipper on the back. Easier to put on and take off alone, without help. Slightly more water entry through the back zipper. The most practical option for general use and beginners
  • Chest zip→ zipper on the chest. Practically hermetic closure, minimal water entry. Requires a bit more practice to put on, especially if you surf alone. Recommended for cold water and surfers who already have experience with this format

En la costa mediterránea un 3/2mm cubre de abril a noviembre. En el Cantábrico o Galicia necesitarás un 4/3mm en invierno. En verano en el mediterráneo con agua por encima de 22°C puedes surfear con 2mm o sin neopreno.

¿Cómo sé si un neopreno de hombre me queda bien?

Debe ajustar bien sin apretar en las articulaciones. Cuando está seco puede parecer justo, pero al mojarse el neopreno se adapta al cuerpo. Si hay pliegues de tela en axila o corva pierde aislamiento.

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre un neopreno con cremallera trasera y uno con cremallera en el pecho?

La cremallera trasera es más fácil de poner y quitar solo. La cremallera en el pecho o zipless tiene menos costura en la espalda, mejor impermeabilidad y más flexibilidad. Los surfers más avanzados prefieren chest zip por el mejor rango de movimiento.
