At Flysurf, we love designer surfboards, and we're constantly racking our brains on how to keep improving and growing, always wanting to bring new things that align with the values we strongly uphold and convey as a brand.
Two of the main reasons we were founded, and which today serve as our hallmarks, are our support for local and surf cultures in the places where we operate, and our passion for good taste and design (which we always try to convey through our designer surfboards). Along these lines, we've decided to participate in the Madrid Design Market, a space where artists and their projects can gain recognition. Furthermore, we're not participating alone; we're doing so in collaboration with MRDesigns… Want to know more? Then keep reading.
Design Market? How, where, and when? Designer boards?
Mercado de Diseño is Spain's largest market for emerging design. Since 2013, it has offered national and international designers and artists the opportunity to exhibit their new collections at a unique event. In its four years of existence, Mercado de Diseño has hosted over 3,000 designers and artisans from various corners of Spain and the world.
The event will be held at the Recinto Ferial de las Rozas from June 25th to 27th. In addition to over 100 stands, where you can get a close look at our boards with a unique aesthetic, there will be a wide gastronomic offering and live concerts. Come join us!
Collaboration with MRDesigns? – Meet Martina Rivera, the designer behind the boards
Maps of your favorite places, watercolor canvases, and custom orders made with great care… ultimately, an alternative to help you make your house a home. This is MRDesigns. We believe there's no need to explain why we decided to embark on this collaboration: dedication and closeness, characteristics with which we deeply identify when creating our designer shred sticks.
And behind all this is Martina Rivera, a friend of the Flysurf family who combines this wonderful project with her engineering job (for now). Here are some facts to help you get to know her a little better:
- How did this project come about?: "I've always loved painting, decorating, personalizing gifts... but it's true that I hadn't picked up a paintbrush in years. It was the quarantine at my parents' house and an old paint box I found in the storage room that pushed me to get back into it."
- Who inspires you?: On Instagram, I follow many artists I admire and who inspire my creations. I want to highlight Berta Llonch among them, as her live sessions and her butterfly garden encouraged me with watercolors.
- Where do you see MRDesigns in 3 years?: "I don't know where we'll end up, but I'd love to be close. I hope it's a project that stays with me for a long time and continues to bring me excitement and opportunities to meet other artists and businesses through collaborations like the one we've done with Flysurf."
- If you had to paint just one destination, which would it be?: "I love summer fruits, playing with watercolor to achieve the freshness of a good watermelon in summer. And if you ask me where, in Cadiz!"
- How comfortable have you felt working with Flysurf and drawing inspiration from surfing for the designs?: "This is the first time I've done something like this, but I was very excited about it and I loved the result. I know your business philosophy, I've followed you since your beginnings in Spain, and I hope this is the first of many projects together!"
Now that you know a little more about MRDesigns and the person behind it, let us introduce you to what we've been working on together.
What does the Flysurf – MRDesigns collaboration consist of?
When thinking about the collaboration, we wanted something that embodied the essence of our exclusive designer surfboards. That's why we asked Martina to create an illustration inspired by one of our most iconic models: "The Traveller."

Furthermore, in line with our commitment to support local products and gradually improve our ecological footprint, we both wanted to create something that was 100% designed and manufactured in Spain. So, we decided to feature Martina's design on t-shirts made here and from 100% organic cotton. The result is as follows:

We hope you like them and feel all the care with which we've prepared them.
See you at the Design Market from June 25th to 27th!
Flysurf Team.
