The Best Surf Tip to Master Longboarding
If there's one discipline that captures the pure essence of gliding, it's longboarding. But don't be mistaken: riding a 9-foot board isn't just about letting yourself be carried by the foam. To truly enjoy it, you need to shift your mindset and understand that here, the ocean sets the pace, not your strength.

Simple Surf Tip to Improve Your Cross-Step
Surf Tips to Improve
In today's surf tip, we're here to talk about the art of the cross-step. But first, what is the cross-step? The cross-step is the way to move from back to front (or vice versa) on your longboard by crossing one foot in front of the other, to always be at the point your board needs at any given moment.
When done well, it's a simple and elegant maneuver, but when done poorly… you usually end up in the water.
Here are some tips for practicing:
- Little by little: Don't try to run to the nose of the board on the first day. Start by taking one step forward and then a couple back, to get a feel for it. Gradually try longer "walks."
- Short steps: As you improve and want to get closer to the nose of the board (noseride), don't do it by taking long strides. Take short steps and advance little by little to control the maneuver. You'll be able to do it faster each time.
- Eyes always on the stringer: As you know, in surfing, your body goes where your eyes go. So if you want to move along the center of your board and not stray, your eyes should always be looking at your stringer (the center of the board). You need to stay centered and balanced when moving forwards and backwards to avoid falling.
We hope this brief surf tip to improve your cross-step is useful.-
